Burst Therapeutics is a brand I created drop ship a white label massage gun in my freshman year of college. During this project, I sold over $5,000 of product through Shopify, without ever actually holding a therapy gun in my hands. Using a mix of Blender3D and photoshop, I developed realistic, marketable animations and renders to use across social marketing and my Shopify e-commerce platform. As a broke college student, I utilized under $250 to fund the entire project, including paid ad spend and influencer marketing.

Research & Define

I began going to the gym in 2018, to build some muscle and mental clarity. Therapy guns were a hot topic, but at the time, they were extremely expensive, heavy and bulky. After some research, I found a smaller, portable therapy gun which solved this issue. I interviewed friends, family, professors and social media influencers, and identified the following key factors which I attribute to the product's success:

  1. My competition was with brands such as TheraGun, and HyperIce. Though these were great products, most consumers didn't feel as though they were worth the $300 price tag.

  1. Therapy guns were bulky and heavy. People wanted a therapy gun they could bring to the gym with them, for post work-out relief.

  1. Drop shipping was becoming increasingly popular at the time. People were able to easily identify these brands when compared to larger labels. To stand out, I needed to create marketing assets outside the stock photos provided by Ali Express.

By identifying a clear gap in the market—affordable, portable, and effective therapy guns—I validated a consumer need through user interviews and market research. This insight drove the success of a more accessible solution that balanced functionality with convenience, ultimately resonating with a wide audience from casual gym-goers to wellness professionals.

I developed a functional e-commerce website in Shopify utilizing the renders and animations I created in Blender3D. This included a landing page, product page and checkout page.

Paid Ad Spend

With my branding, website, product and value proposition completed, I began budgeting paid ad spend. I found that the conversion rates through meta were extremely low, and transitioned to influencer marketing.

To stay within budget, I identified other gym related products such as yoga mats, gym shorts and protein bottles doing A/B testing, and found that creators between the ranges of 100k - 300k followers offered the highest amount of engagement, page visits and product conversions.

I ran 4 separate ads through similar types of gym influencers, at $50/advertisement, which accumulated over $5,000 in sales over 2 weeks.

Reflection & Takeaways

This project pushed me to grow as both a UX/UI developer and a designer. I developed my ability to problem solve, understand user experience, and craft a strong cohesive visual language to create a functional, user-friendly website. It also deepened my collaborative skills—working closely with the client, incorporating feedback, and iterating with intention to stay aligned with their vision. Additionally, I expanded my toolset by developing my skills in Figma and Framer, using them to solve design challenges in real time.
